Cong. Flake’s Lame Excuse for Voting for ENDA

Cong. Jeff Flake (R-Arizona) has basically admitted that he is ashamed of supporting conservative causes. Last month, Flake shocked his conservative district constituents by casting an unconscionable vote in support of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. ENDA represents the latest effort by homosexual pressure groups to make incremental gains in eroding the freedom to oppose the homosexual agenda. ENDA rests on the fallacy that one’s chosen sexual habits subject them to “civil rights discrimination” and that legislation is needed to protect them.

More recently, Flake acknowledged that the reason he voted with the leftists in Congress supporting homosexual interest groups. He said that the opposition congressmen were hateful in expressing their opposition to the bill, so he voted with the leftists in support of the controversial bill. Flake may appease some people with that claim, but the Congressional Record provides us with all of the testimony opposing ENDA, which we have reviewed and found impressive on merits.

In reviewing the Congressional Record, the opponents of ENDA deserve credit for contributing reasoned, thoughtful and intelligent remarks. Flake has been known to grasp at straws before, and he is clearly reaching on ENDA in an attempt to justify an unjustifiable vote.

Flake has already angered many Americans with his support of amnesty in the form of guest worker programs. Now he has two major strikes against him – and two formidable opponents in next year’s Republican primary. Arizona State Representative Russell Pearce is exploring a primary challenge to Flake, and many would welcome a change. Pearce would make an excellent replacement for Flake in Congress, and we can count on him to oppose the radical homosexual agenda and consistently oppose bills like ENDA.
